In a word… AMAZING!

I woke up at 5:30am this morning and was not pleased…  I’m a real grump in the morning at the best of times so getting up at 5:30am is just not on.  Good job it was my own wedding I had to get up for otherwise there would have been a right tantrum.

Anyway, the first ten minutes after waking up were spent just lying in bed not really wanting to get up all of a sudden.  It was a really weird feeling but all of a sudden I was feeling sick, thought the dress was completely over the top and everyone would hate it and I just wanted the day to be over.  How sorry I am for feeling that way now…

It was just the best day ever.  It was the hottest weekend of the year in Germany, blue skies, not a cloud in sight, bright sunshine and all my friends and family around me to celebrate me becoming Mrs Wood.  And then hardly two hours later (and still in my wedding dress) I was going to see my brother and his partner getting married too.  That would officially be our first official engagement as Mr and Mrs Wood.

It was kind of weird that after all the organisation and planning and worrying the day had finally come but it was just perfect.

My hairdresser turned up at 6am sharpish and Craig left at this point to get ready with his best man. Good job too because if he had seen me with all those rollers in my hair he probably would have changed his mind…

I got ready with my soon to be mum in law, my sister, my two nieces and my nephew’s girlfriend around me and even though it was quite early I think we all had a good time.

Although the plan initially was to get the train with everyone, I was persuaded to get a taxi with my mum and mum in law. Here are my mum and me just after we arrived at the Town Hall

In German tradition, the ceremony started promptly and finished on time.  The Registrar was lovely and our interpreter did a superb job.

And here we are emerging as Mr and Mrs Wood (check out the clock above us – how cool of the photographer to capture that very moment!)

And just a few more because they turned out so lovely…

And one last one for now

And yes, that is me in my wedding dress in a sun lounger in the sandpit at the kindergarten where we celebrated!!  Have you noticed my shoes??  I must have been the most comfortable bride ever wearing golden trainers!

That’s it for now…must go and rest after all that excitement.

Bye for now

Mrs S Wood

Thank you!

Today is the day before the big day and after we all had a very busy day I just quickly want to say thank you.  To my family and friends who have supported us over the last few months on a sometimes not very easy journey.  We are nearly there.  Tomorrow I will become Mrs Wood but in the meantime I wanted to share some picture of the day before the big day…Thank you for all getting stuck in!!

Whether you helped to tie the napkins (we only just had enough ribbon!)

Helped with the flowers…

Although some of your clearly got side-tracked…

Or helped with the pre-wedding nerves the evening before…

Thank you and see you tomorrow!

Arriving at the airport yesterday, the heavens opened…

Seriously, I have never been caught in such a rainstorm before.  From getting out of the taxi just to the nearest shelter (which was the airport bus stop) which was quite literally just across the road, we all got soaked yesterday.

We then sort of dried off while waiting to board the plane and got soaked again walking to the bus that was going to take us to the plane. We then had to get from the bus onto the plane via those lovely wobbly metal staircases attached to the plane and…you guessed it…got soaked a little more.

In stark contrast, we arrived in Germany on a very balmy evening and had dinner in the garden around 11pm (although there was a little thunderstorm).  The weather forecast for the next few days was for sun, sun, sun and at least 30 degrees on Saturday.

On checking we noticed however that quite a lot of our clothes in the suitcases had also been soaked (and one of my purple tops had actually lost some of it’s dye in one of Craig’s shirts. Oh dear, good job our wedding outfits weren’t in those suitcases.  That definately was money well spent…

Today will be a very quiet day with a little sightseeing (before some family and friends start to arrive) and then tomorrow there are flowers to sort, the venue to be set up and cake to be eaten.  We decided we would start early and my sister has kindly agreed to bring some cake with her for tomorrow so we can all get into the spirit.

My brother had me in stitches earlier today by the way.  When I sent my dress, I explained to him that within the box was a gown bag and a special padded hanger and could he please put the dress onto the special hanger and then place the dress into the gown bag to be hung up.

For some reason he opened the parcel the wrong way round however and the first items he saw were a plastic sleeve and coat hanger which the bridal house had left in the box when they boxed the dress.  Then he saw the dress and, putting two and two together thought that I must have meant that plastic sleeve and coat hanger.  So I found my dress hanging on a plastic coat hanger covered in just a plastic sleeve which didn’t cover the dress all the way round the bottom which meant the dress was kind of dragging on the floor.  Argh!!

I politely asked where the gown bag was but just got a very confused look.  Turns out the gown bag and special hanger were still in the very bottom of the parcel and with quite a few giggles we moved the dress onto the pretty hanger and into it’s lovely gown bag.

There, that’s better. Bless him. He was mortified really but then he is a guy so I didn’t really expect him to know that a gown bag would be more than a plastic sleeve.

The day of flying out to Germany has finally arrived.  We are all rather giddy.

I still have no shoes (well, that is not strictly speaking correct but the shoes I do have should probably be reserved for the evening when no-one cares anymore).

Before we are heading off to the airport however I have to collect Craig’s shirt, which needed altering, have my hair cut, my nails done oh yes, and pick up some shoes.

You will all be pleased to know that at the very last moment I found some lovely little sandals, my size, perfect colour and in the sale!! Whohoo!  Ready to go now!

Shipping a wedding dress…

With the big day getting closer, one big decision to to be made was what we were going to do with our wedding outfits.  I had enough bags booked for the flight to take the dress (and Craig’s suit) onto the plane but then I just didn’t really fancy sitting on the plane for an hour stressing over whether or not my suitcase with my wedding dress would actually arrive in the same location. I had previously lost a suitcase on a Christmas trip home and it’s not a pleasant experience (the suitcase made it to Switzerland for some reason…).

Whilst sending it with a courier wasn’t actually that expensive, the next question was whether or not to have the parcel insured.  That was going to add another £50 to the bill (which was twice the courier fee really). Now, usually I would say no, absolutely not.  I might as well set fire to money but on this occasion I was a little more reserved and in the end opted to have it all insured.

I couldn’t bear to think of anything happening to the parcel so for the sake of £50 I gave in.

The good news is that I had an email from my brother today to let me know it all arrived safely. Phew.

Craig’s mum and dad (and my future parents in law) are also arriving today and we are all flying out to Germany in five days time. Oh and have I mentioned that I have no shoes to go with my dress yet?? Oh dear…
